The day after April Fools. April Fools has been a favorite holiday for nearly a decade now. It isn’t about playing jokes on people, or pranking, or anything of that sort that draws me to the holiday. It is instead the idea of the Fool, the Green Man, the beginning of the journey. To me, April Fools is the first day of the year. It is when we again become the fool to wander the winding roads that lead to further realization and actualization.

It has been a good month for actualization. I have completed my newest album, titled LEO, and it is available for listening here. You can also check it out on the MUSIC page, as I have updated the list of albums, adding LEO’s track list and cover art.

Further, I have started a new typewriter-based visual art series titled COYOTYPE. This new collection will differ from my past typewriter works, as I am blending the physical aspects that I create with the typewriter and ink on paper with digital methods to create pieces with a new look a feel. Not quite analog, not quite digital, something new.

Last, I want to thank everyone who picked up a piece before the SOLOTYPE edition airdrop to collectors! I hope you enjoyed the 100th and final SOLOTYPE piece. There are still a handful of SOLOTYPE pieces available on the primary market. So please check those out if you are interested in a 1:1 typewriter piece with no digital manipulation.

Until next time, stay groovy!

One thing I have been thinking about lately is how a work, when I get into it, consumes me. It almost becomes obsessive in a way, especially if I set some goal as I go along. It has become that way with my SoloType typewriter series. As it comes to a close, I am almost excited to move to a new obsession. I have already began working on a few other projects, musical and visual.

Being an artist and explorer of many different mediums, I find that this hyper-focused feeling spans all disciplines, and if one thinks of life as art, then I feel it reaches into that sphere as well. Before SoloType, I worked on WAKE night and day, listening to it, reworking tracks, balancing additions or the new sound after subtracting. It is a constant process of active decision making. It is higher thinking. When creating it is very easy to silence the monkey mind. Getting started creating, sometimes that can make the monkey noisier than ever.

As I have continued to further my understanding of traditional visual art mediums (primarily ink, but also acrylic paint, stamp & wood press), it has become clear to me how much each form of my artistic expression influences the other. What I mean by this, is that for the longest time I was incredibly intimidated by visual art—if it weren’t for 10+ years of creating and producing music, I likely wouldn’t have created SoloType, WU WEI, Virtual Particles, etc. It took the knowledge of creating something, layer by layer, and seeing how those layers interact with each other (like creating a beat) for me to really see how visual art was made. It is not everything all at once, few things are.

Maybe this seems obvious. But if you listened to the recordings of my first bands, the desire for everything all at once is painfully apparent. Maybe this is also true of some of the first books I wrote, now that I think about it…

Writing also ties into the understanding of my personal output. One of the greatest lessons one can learn from creating is the knowledge that you are able to complete great tasks, things you might have thought near-impossible, if you focus your mind and work to climb that mountain little by little. Writing a book is a slow, painstaking process, and that is just the writing part! Then comes the editing, the rewriting, the editing, over and again. Completing such a task thought me that I can complete any task, maybe not immediately, but with time and effort.

I hope insight into my creative process somehow helps you with yours. My best advice is to keep creating and try things that you are interested in. The first attempts at a new medium do not need to be work of any consideration, but that exploration will help you! And, if you can, finish something. Even if that something isn’t your favorite, just knowing you can bring a work to full realization will bring a fire and certainty to your heart!

Greetings my friends!

This is to be my first entry into an ongoing update and insight to my artistic endeavors. It is the end of the year 2023 and my current goal is to complete my SoloType series before the year’s end. I am currently finishing the final pieces in the 100 piece set. The last piece will be airdropped to all the collectors that hold a SoloType piece at the beginning of next year (Jan 1, 2024). If you are interested, there is still time to grab a piece of the collection. I have a few artworks available on the primary market.

Here is a link if you are interested.

SoloType has been an ongoing project that has taken about a year and a quarter to complete. Each of the pieces are entirely physical and are archived and in my possession. I scan the original in at 1200 dpi to ensure that everything from the texture of the paper, the scratches of the pen, and the indentions from the typewriter are all visible and apparent in the piece. I do not resize after this, so the end result is large, high-resolution, and wonderfully suited for printing.

Each piece is abstract but oftentimes conceptual. This leads to certain archetypes, motifs, and vague inklings to arise from the overall image. Explorations included in the SoloType series include concepts such as dark and light, absence versus presence, motion and fixedness, being and nothingness. Reoccurring concepts explored throughout the series, and revisited time and again in my artistic endeavors, are the ideas of ‘wu wei’ and ‘tranquilo’.

While the end of the year will mark the end of the SoloType series, this will not be the end of my artistic endeavors (as if I could stop creating things if I tried!). I am currently working on new musical projects, as well as other visual art explorations. The end of one thing is the beginning of other things!

Do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about my work. Until next we meet again, enjoy your explorations!
